چکیده

Ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), which damage DNA, proteins, and lipids in aquatic organisms, including fish. This study evaluated UVB-induced oxidative stress several tissues of two marine teleosts, gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Juveniles both were exposed to four treatments simulating underwater UVB (no, low, moderate, high UVB) doses for 6 weeks. Oxidative (the activities antioxidant enzymes (catalase, CAT; glutathione-S-transferase, GST; superoxide dismutase, SOD, lipid peroxidation, LPO) analyzed the skin, liver, head kidney, gills, muscle, brain, intestine, spleen, kidney samples obtained at increasing exposure times (3–43 days). induced significant responses tissues, with skin showing more pronounced effects S. aurata than D. labrax. In liver labrax, LPO levels significantly increased intensity time. CAT activity was inhibited (i.e., brain) SOD decreased labrax; however, prolonged time required gills aurata. GST reduced early aurata, whereas noted brain end experiment. An interactive effect between observed (seabream seabass) (seabass). Our results indicated that is as well indirectly labrax after subsurface transparent seas.

The Bromodomain Testis-Specific Gene (Brdt) Characterization and Expression in Gilthead Seabream, Sparus Aurata, and European Seabass, Dicentrarchus Labrax

Multiple genes and transcription factors are involved in regulation and control of the complex process of sex determination and differentiation of fish species. Also more, several hormonal factors and some environmental conditions can also be adequate spawning strategies and stimuli for inducing reproduction of fish species. Brdt gene belongs to the bromodomain-extraterminal domain (BET) family...

Flow cytometric determination of genome size in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), thinlip mullet (Liza ramada), and European eel (Anguilla anguilla)

The nuclear DNA content in Dicentrarchus labrax, Sparus aurata, Liza ramada, and Anguilla anguilla, was measured by flow cytometric analysis. Male human leukocytes were used as internal reference cells. Nucleated fish erythrocytes were stained simultaneously to human leukocytes with a staining buffer containing propidium iodide (PI). Nuclear DNA contents of target species were estimated in rela...

Environmental Conditioning of Skeletal Anomalies Typology and Frequency in Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata L., 1758) Juveniles

In this paper, 981 reared juveniles of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) were analysed, 721 of which were from a commercial hatchery located in Northern Italy (Venice, Italy) and 260 from the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (Crete, Greece). These individuals were from 4 different egg batches, for a total of 10 different lots. Each egg batch was split into two lots after hatching, and reared...

The first comparative study on the growth performance of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax, L. 1758) and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata, L. 1758) commercially farmed in low salinity brackish water and earthen ponds

In this study, 50 000 European seabass and 50 000 gilthead seabream with an average wet weight of 1.6 g were cultivated during 600 days under low water salinity conditions (7‰) of which getting out from underground at fixed 19°C, being produced in earthen ponds under commercial production conditions. From the beginning to the end of the experiment, the same fish feeds were used for both species...
